vn works completely as a standalone application, meaning you don't need anything more than your operating system (which can be mac osx or windows xp) and a quicktime installation. the videorendering is on todays systems really fast, if you ever dreamed of something like a realtime compositing tool or a realtime musicvideo application then this is for you.
videonerd was designed originally for performing in a club context, meaning simple said straight or broken dance music, so basically everything is centered about mixing and combining video in a rhythmstructure. nevertheless the videomixer is of course not limited to this kind of vj'ing and can be also used for more complex situations, even small video installations, with sensor-devices hooked up to its midi-interface.
to make it short, here are the specs and features:
1. video is rendered in 640x480 fullscreen on a second monitor
2. 3 filebrowser for sorting your video-files
3. live-cam support
4. each movie deck (or live-input) has its own fx-section with selected standard and non-standard effects, for details read the dedicated fx article

6. advanced preset system based on xml for preparing your set at home and saving the best combinations/fx's

8. self optimizing rock-solid rendering engine for best performance
9. compositing can be done with several different operations, f.e. add/multiply/x-fade
